Welcome to Queensland Literary Awards
The Queensland Literary Awards are an annual event that recognises, rewards and celebrates the literary excellence of writers from across the state. Now in their 13th year, the Awards come in a wide range, making them one of the richest literary prizes in Australia.
The Awards are open to writers of all genres, including fiction, non- fiction, poetry, children’s and young adult literature, and Indigenous writing. The Queensland Literary Awards are an annual awards event that recognises, rewards and promotes the vital contribution of Queensland writers and writing to the state’s cultural life.
They are presented in eight categories:
• Fiction
• Non-fiction
• Poetry
• Young Adult Literature
• Children’s Literature
• Australian History
• Emerging Queensland Writer – Manuscript Award
• People’s Choice Award
The Awards are administered by the State Library of Queensland and are made possible through the generous support of the Queensland Government, sponsors and donors.
The Awards aim to:
• recognise the achievements of Queensland writers
• promote the value and benefits of reading, writing and literature
• encourage the creation and publication of high-quality literary works by Queensland writers
• contribute to a vibrant and diverse literary culture in Queensland.

How many literary awards are there?
The answer may surprise you: there are actualy quite a few literary awards out there! Here are just a few of the most prestigious ones:
The Pulitzer Prize : This award is given out annually for achievement in American literature, journalism, and drama.
The National Book Award: This award is given out annually by the National Book Foundation to honor the best American literature of the year.
The Man Booker Prize: This prestigious award is given out annually to a novel written in English and published in the United Kingdom.
The Nobel Prize in Literature: This is perhaps the most well-known literary award in the world. It is given out annually to an author who has “produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction.”

What is the highest literacy award?
The highest literacy award is the Nobel Prize in Literature. This prestigious award is given to an author who has made a significant contribution to the world of literature. The prize is worth over $1 million and is given out annually.
